Creceith Castle Scotland 1282 A.D.
This painting meets the requirement for telling a story. The painting depicts the death of the last true Welsh prince Llwellyn ap Griffydd through the use of his standard with his coat of arms and broken staff, his helmet, the broken lance and sword in the foreground and the rise of English rule over Wales depicted by the banner of Edward I flying over Llwellyn’s favorite castle – Creceith. The Welsh view Llwellyn ap Gruffydd as a saint because he, like his grandfather, Llwellyn Fawr, kept the shires and their princes united under one great prince – a united Wales. Thus the ray of light welcoming the reverent Llwellyn ap Gruffydd to heaven.
